I have chosen to look slightly deep within by challenging myself to a 30 day writing project. Ralph Waldo Emerson is someone who I admire and would loved to have had a thoughtful conversation with. How would it start ? What would I say? Ok … let’s jump in –

Me: “Hello Mr. Emerson, how are you? Okay … okay dumb question seeing that you are dead and if you were alive you would be 208 years old and probably want to cut the bs and get to the point.”

RWE:”You are so right my child now get on with it…” As he sips on the tall cold glass of fresh limeade that I just served the both of us as we sit out on my back patio enjoying the garden and each others company.

Me: “Sorry sir, I guess I am nervous. I really do admire your works, thoughts and work ethic. You are one of the few authors who walk it like they talk it. Um … anyway moving on, I am wondering about my life’s journey. You know questions like ‘where am I headed?’ ‘what is my Divine Life Purpose?’ and am I really pushing myself to be ALL that I can be? I have always tried to instill the ‘Walk your talk’ to my children because all you really have in life is your name (CREDIT) and your word(WORTH).”

RWE:”Tis true my child, all you have in life is your word or credit nowadays and that carries a lot of weight does it not?” So what do you want to be known for ? Whether good or bad you see all that I am remembered for. In my day the fear of GOD and a handshake was all you needed for your word and your word was your sum total. Go back to your core, your basics and work your way back from there. You are a Life Coach, right ? It’s time for you to coach yourself, okay my dear? Like Viagra – take action!”

Me: “Yessir, thank you so much. But …”

RWE: “Work on your core for now. Do that project you agreed to do for your BIBLE Study group …You know the morning and evening devotions … that’s a good starting place. That’s it for now. I am hot out in this 96 degrees, I drank that wonderful limeade of yours and now it’s knocking on my door. This 208 year old bladder is not what it once was … Until the next meeting my child. Good day”

Me: “Thank you Mr. Emerson, and a good day to you too.” I am left smiling & pondering the exchange as I clean up the pitcher and glasses that once held the refreshing beverage that added to our refreshing conversation.”

Thank you Mr. Emerson for not giving me pat answer’s but making me think and hold myself accountable to me!

“Ne te quaesiveris extra.”

“Man is his own star; and the soul that can
Render an honest and a perfect man,
Commands all light, all influence, all fate;
Nothing to him falls early or too late.
Our acts our angels are, or good or ill,
Our fatal shadows that walk by us still.”
Epilogue to Beaumont and Fletcher’s Honest Man’s Fortune

Cast the bantling on the rocks,
Suckle him with the she-wolf’s teat;
Wintered with the hawk and fox,
Power and speed be hands and feet
